Priory Court "Unity Banner" Mural
Celebrate Walthamstow’s community spirit with a groundbreaking six-storey mural by artist INSA. See the UK’s largest animated street art piece come to life via augmented reality.
A bold new landmark has arrived at Priory Court estate…. the Unity Banner, a 160m² animated mural by renowned artist INSA created in collaboration with Wood Street Walls and The Digital Story Company.
As the estate's first permanent public artwork in 80 years, this vibrant piece combines street art, augmented reality and community storytelling.
Visitors can download INSA's GIF-ITI Viewer app to see the mural transform into moving artwork, while discovering design elements that honour Priory Court's history, from the symbolic willow tree to embroidered details celebrating local sewing traditions and William Morris's legacy.
The project involved local young people in painting workshops and incorporated fox motifs contributed by resident group The Bees Knees. Shaped by over 60 resident interviews and workshops, this community masterpiece stands as one of the UK's largest augmented reality murals.
Supported by Waltham Forest Council, Clarion Futures and Wates Group, the Unity Banner redefines public art as a shared, living experience for all.
