Walk: Wetland & Marshland Wanderings - Restorative Creative Walk
Join artist Alisa Ruzavina for a guided walk through Walthamstow Marshes and Wetlands, exploring urban ecology through creative practices, storytelling and playful observation. Discover new connections between human history, our bodies and local wildlife.
Step into an imaginative exploration of Walthamstow's wild spaces with Earthkinology Studio on this unique walking tour that reveals the marshes through a creative lens. Investigate how the industrial and wild histories intertwine throughout this unique for London site.
Starting on the edges of Argall Industrial Area, we'll wander through the grassland and wetland landscapes, pausing to share stories of human and non-human residents, notice the beautiful collisions between wildness and urban design, and explore what ecological kinship might look like in our city.
Artist Alisa Ruzavina creates spaces for 'ecological dreaming,' making this walk equal parts conversation, sensory experience, and celebration of Waltham Forest's unique ecosystems.
You'll leave with fresh perspectives on local ecology, a deeper connection to urban wildlife, and playful ideas for coexisting with our non-human neighbours.
Walk details
The walk will start at the sculpture at the corner of St James’ Park, South Access Road, E17 8AN and will take a route through the Argall Industrial Area, Walthamstow Marshes and Walthamstow Wetlands.
It will finish at lovely Engine House Cafe on Walthamstow Wetlands territory, 2 Forest Road, N17 9NH.
The route is approximately 2.5 miles so please wear appropriate footwear and clothing. We will be walking through the marsh, which has some uneven surfaces and will be walking through a footbridge. In addition, we will also be going up and down a hilled narrow path.
There will be points of rest near benches.
We will start moving along our walk at 10:30 am sharp, so please arrive on time or a bit beforehand.
Concession and free ticket options are available due to generous support from London National Park City.
